Work Force Development Center (WFDC)
WFDC Mission Statement:
WFDC empowers at-risk and disadvantaged youth to complete high school and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society by teaching essential life skills, work ethics, and vocational skills.
Work Force Development Center is one of Snohomish County's best kept secrets. Located in Mukilteo, this is a vocational training program that allows students to actually earn money, get high school credit, and learn valuable skills to advance to a full-time career in many industries. Students attend part-time at the WFDC facility and part-time at their regular high school. Schools have a limited number of spaces available for their students, so if this is something your son or daughter is interested in, they should talk to their school counselor as soon as possible. Many at-risk youth do particularly well in this program, as it really is like going to a real job; it gives them incentive to stay out of trouble and away from drugs. Obviously they won't let you operate machinery if they suspect any mind-altering substance in the system.
